For large standard products weighing more than 1 lb, Amazon uses dimensional weight if it exceeds actual weight. Dimensional weight (lb) = length x width x height (inches) / 139. A product measuring 12 x 8 x 4 inches has a dimensional weight of 2.76 lb. If the actual product weighs 1 lb, Amazon charges the 2 to 3 lb fulfillment fee of $5.47.
For oversize products, Amazon uses actual weight rather than dimensional weight.
Amazon charges a referral fee on every sale. This is a percentage of the total selling price, with a minimum fee of $0.30 per unit. Rates vary by category.

Amazon charges monthly storage fees based on the space your inventory occupies in their fulfillment centers, measured in cubic feet.
| Period | Standard size | Oversize |
|---|---|---|
| January to September | $0.78/cu ft | $0.56/cu ft |
| October to December | $2.40/cu ft | $1.20/cu ft |
Storage volume per unit = (length x width x height) / 1,728 cubic feet. A product measuring 10 x 6 x 4 inches occupies 0.139 cubic feet, costing $0.11 per month off-peak or $0.33 per month in Q4.
The October to December rate for standard products is 3.1 times the off-peak rate. Plan inventory levels around this to avoid unnecessary storage costs during peak season.
New Amazon sellers use it before listing to verify that the selling price needed to cover all Amazon fees is achievable in the market.
Experienced FBA sellers use it when repricing, auditing margins, or deciding whether to switch from FBA to FBM for slow-moving products.
Product sourcing teams use it alongside supplier cost estimates to determine whether a product can be profitably sold on Amazon before placing a purchase order.
Amazon agencies use it to quickly model multiple products during client profitability audits.
FBA fees typically consume 25 to 35% of the selling price for products in the $10 to $30 price range. For products priced below $8, the fixed fulfillment fee often makes FBA unprofitable unless the product is sold in multi-packs.
The breakeven between FBA and FBM depends on your own fulfillment costs. If your cost to pick, pack, and ship an order is below the FBA fee for your size tier, FBM may preserve more margin. For slow-moving bulky items held over Q4, FBM often produces a better outcome.
What fees does Amazon FBA charge?
Amazon FBA charges three main fees per unit sold: a fulfillment fee (based on product size and weight), a referral fee (a percentage of the selling price based on product category), and a monthly storage fee (based on cubic footage of inventory held in Amazon fulfillment centers). Additional fees may apply for aged inventory over 181 days, inbound placement services, and returns processing.
What is the FBA fulfillment fee for a small standard product?
For small standard products (longest side 15 inches or less, shortest side 0.75 inches or less, weight 16 oz or less), Amazon's 2025 fulfillment fee ranges from $3.06 for products weighing 2 oz or less up to $3.60 for products weighing 12 to 16 oz. A typical small standard product weighing 6 oz costs $3.43 in fulfillment fees.
What is Amazon's referral fee and which categories have the lowest rates?
Amazon's referral fee is a percentage of the selling price charged on every sale, with a minimum of $0.30 per unit. Consumer Electronics, Computers, Camera and Photo, and Baby and Beauty products under $10 have the lowest standard rate at 8%. Most categories including Home and Kitchen, Toys and Games, Sports and Outdoors, and Clothing charge 15 to 17%.
How does dimensional weight affect FBA fees?
For large standard products weighing more than 1 lb, Amazon calculates dimensional weight as (length x width x height in inches) / 139. If dimensional weight exceeds actual weight, Amazon charges the higher figure. A 12 x 8 x 4 inch box has a dimensional weight of 2.76 lb. If the product inside weighs 1 lb, the fulfillment fee is charged at the 2 to 3 lb rate ($5.47) rather than the 1 lb rate ($4.41).
What are Amazon FBA storage fees?
Amazon charges monthly storage fees of $0.78 per cubic foot for standard-size products from January through September, and $2.40 per cubic foot from October through December. Oversize rates are $0.56 from January to September and $1.20 from October to December. Storage volume per unit = (length x width x height) / 1,728.
Why do Amazon FBA storage fees jump in October?
Amazon raises storage fees from October through December because those months cover Prime Big Deal Days, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday when warehouse capacity is most constrained. The Q4 rate of $2.40 per cubic foot for standard products is 3.1 times the off-peak rate. Sellers with slow-moving inventory should remove stock from Amazon warehouses before October to avoid the Q4 premium.
When is FBM (self-shipping) cheaper than FBA?
FBA becomes cheaper than self-fulfillment when your own order fulfillment cost per package exceeds the FBA fee for your size tier. For small standard products, FBA fees start at $3.06. If you can ship similar products yourself for under $3, FBM may produce better margins. FBA also includes customer service and returns handling, which has value beyond the shipping cost alone.
What is the minimum referral fee on Amazon?
The minimum referral fee is $0.30 per unit for most product categories on Amazon.com. This minimum applies when the calculated percentage referral fee would be less than $0.30. For very low-priced items, the $0.30 minimum becomes the effective referral fee regardless of the category percentage rate.
What does this calculator not include?
This calculator covers the three core FBA fees: fulfillment, referral, and storage. It does not include Amazon's inbound placement service fee, aged inventory surcharges for units stored 181 days or more, returns processing fees, or optional services like Amazon Vine or Sponsored Products advertising. Add these costs separately for a complete model.
